Some of our residents enjoy tending to the vegetable plants or flowers located in the courtyard area. Raised planters provide convenience for the residents, since most would have difficulty kneeling or stooping to care for the plants. It is well known that loneliness and helplessness are common emotions in the nursing home resident. They have cared for others all their lives and it is difficult to give up that responsibility and now need total care themselves. The feeling of helplessness persists if they are unable to care for someone or something in return. That is why we at Mulberry Square take the extra time to provide activities, such as gardening, so the residents can feel useful again. They are so proud of their efforts and show off the harvested tomatoes and beautiful bouquets from the flower gardens. Pets are also welcome to come visit. Animals have a unique way uplifting everyone's spirits. For more information on therapeutic activities within Mulberry Square, click on Activities.
